The Trap*

The Trap - Andrew Fukuda

*Contains light spoilers for The Hunt trilogy.

First of all, The Trap is a terrible title for the final installment of a trilogy.

This one was pretty unbelievable. I kept asking myself, is it really possible for a human to be doing these things on so little sleep and food or with that much blood loss. However, the plot keeps moving so there's not a lot of time to question what's going on (which is good because if there were more time to think I wouldn't like these books as much).

There's nothing that special about this book. I'd say it was probably the weakest of the three for me. It answers a lot of questions I've had from the beginning, but there were no real surprises. I really felt the lack of character development in this one. None of the deaths really struck me. They were all pretty predictable and since we don't really know much about these characters it was difficult to feel anything for them.

Also the ending goes on and on. I would have cut the last two pages and left it at that. And some mention of Ben would have been nice. There's nothing at all and I had forgotten that he was sent away with Clair at the end of the last book.

I can't say that I didn't enjoy it though. It swept me up and made me keep reading throughout the book (very similar to the experience I had reading The Hunger Games for the first time. It's just impossible to stop reading).
