Wait for Me

Wait for Me - An Na

I remember this book being longer. And the story covering more time. However, it's just as deep as I remember (I don't mean deep here in any pretentious way, just that the story might seem smaller in some ways but it's just as big in others, emotionally mostly).

The book is a very narrow view, concentrating on Mina and her conflicting desires to be a good daughter and to do what she wants. She's trying to achieve both at once, so of course she ends up failing all around.

I enjoyed rereading her story (I had somehow completely forgotten that Suna is deaf). I like that it's not so explained. Often times, I find particularly with Korean YA authors, everything Korean is explained so much. This book avoids that and really feels like it was written for insiders, though outsiders will also enjoy it. And bonus points for an interracial relationship that includes no white people.
