I read this book to complete my summer reading bingo sheet. I do not read romances. I do not understand this genre (just like I don't understand sci fi). I felt like I did when I was reading Annihilation, like I was missing something because I do not understand the language of these books.
That said, I did not care for this novel. There was so much sex (maybe this is typical for a romance novel, but since I mainly read children's novels and adult nonfiction about nonsexy things there is little to no sex in the books I normally read). I didn't like the characters. The conflicts they faced were uninteresting to me. From what I understand Sarah MacLean writes good romance novels, so I think this just showed me that this is not my idea of fantasy fulfillment and it's not a genre I like to read.
