It's like someone put all the things they thought a seven-year-old girl would like and pulled a few out of a bowl. Girls like puppies, fairies, magic and birthdays, right? That's enough to carry a book. I read this because a summer reading bingo square was exactly that: Some combination of rainbow/fairy/sparkles/dessert/happy/unicorn/magic/mermaid in one book. Again, I'm sure this series is very formulaic and nothing about it stood out (it's not particularly funny or charming or sweet). There are probably better fluffy easy chapter books out there.
