2 1/2 stars. Exactly. This book is so average. I don't really have any feelings about it. I can't tell if most people share my feelings or if this is a polarizing book. So strange. When I started this book I thought it would be like X-Men (spoiler: it’s not). Well, it’s a little like X-Men, but not how I expected. I don’t really know what information would be a spoiler for this story, so I won’t attempt to sum it up. If I had to pick one word to describe this book it would be adequate. The story was fine. The writing wasn’t terrible. I liked the pictures, but half of them seemed included solely for their strange factor, not because they added anything to the story. Also, I could have done without all the descriptions of the pictures. Sometimes the descriptions were good, in which case I wouldn’t have needed the photographs. Sometimes the descriptions and photographs didn’t match up at all for me.There was nothing great about the book. There was also nothing terrible about it. I have very few feelings about it at all. I found myself not thinking as I was reading it but not really caring that there was nothing to think about. It’s not a difficult read. It’s not particularly scary. It’s entertaining, I guess? The book is too long for the story it’s telling, and I didn’t find the story for this book that compelling. I guess everything seemed pretty obvious so it was hard to tell if I was supposed to be surprised by anything. So I just read the book, letting the story take me where it went. Nothing was offensive enough to stop me from reading it. I finished it in an afternoon, but if I hadn’t had that afternoon free, it would still be sitting on my bookshelf right now untouched.
