The Mysterious Edge of the Heroic World

The Mysterious Edge of the Heroic World - E.L. Konigsburg

One of our children's librarians told me that this cover would never attract a kid to this book (and I have to agree).

All the elements of a good mystery are there, they just never came together for me. There's so much explaining and so little action and then the book just ends. I felt like I should be much more emotional over the story/characters than I was. The book deals with some heavy themes (and also liberally uses terms like g***y and h*m*sexual), but I just didn't connect with any of it.

Apparently The Outcasts of 19 Schuyler Place is tangentially related to this book (I bought the two without knowing this). I'll have to see if Peter is more or less ridiculous in that story.
