An Un-Calibrated Centrifuge

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - J.K. Rowling, John Kerr Tiffany, Jack Thorne

I read this book in an evening (I borrowed a friend's library copy) not realizing it was 300 pages long (that's a 5+ hr play, friends).

I found the whole thing disappointing. I would still go see the play because I'm intrigued how they pull any of the magic off on stage, but the story is not good. It's like Thorne watched a couple of the movies once and went from there.

The characters often feel like the worst versions of themselves (especially Ron, his was definitely the worst character assassination in the script). The wizarding world isn't as magical as in the original series. The pacing didn't work for me. This is an issue that's probably solved in the stage version. However, there are several scenes where too much is happening in too little time.

The whole thing just reads like a mess and the climax reads more like a farce than anything approaching drama or danger.

I didn't have high expectations. Honestly I wasn't even sure I was going to read it, but I expected something better than this.
