The Beginning

The Beginning (Animorphs, #54) - Katherine Applegate

Wikipedia tells me Applegate is a Tolkien fan. The Beginning tells me too. The structure is very similar to Return of the King. (I'm guessing. I only read to the destruction of the ring, saw there were 200 more pages and then quit.)

I like the look we get into the characters' futures, but I did have some questions. More under the cut.

Like Nora. She just disappears from the story after Marco's mom is free, but what happened to her?

Also James and his Animorphs. Were they all killed at the final battle? It's implied, I guess, but some mention of them in this book would have been nice. They did die to free the human race and all.

I like that Cassie and Jake don't end up together, but Ronnie... really? Ronnie. The character can stay, but couldn't Applegate have picked a better name?

I wish there had been a better ending for Arbron too.

The reasoning for Cassie to not go on the mission to search for the blade ship makes sense in-universe, but it still made me sad that the group wasn't all together and that she was left behind. Also there are too many dudes in the new group.

Add me to the camp of fans unsatisfied with the ending. It's not bad. I'm not angry about it. It just left me wanting a whole new series. 64 more books about this new adventure we're going on, please. Hey, I can dream.
