One of my favorite things about this series is the way aliens view humans. The Andalites are amazed that humans managed space travel so quickly after achieving flight on earth. The Yeerks are amazed by human tenacity.
Slight spoilers under the cut.
I can't remember if the fact that Jake makes the decision to boil a hundred or so Yeerks to death is ever brought up again. He's pretty cavalier about it, and Cassie doesn't protest at all. That scene seemed strange to me in the book. I know in future books there are debates about morality and the role it plays when fighting a war and that there's a lot to get through in this book, but that bit felt out of character/sync to me with the rest of the story so far.
ETA: There's also some pretty rapid morphing in this book. Ax often has to go from human to Andalite to mission morph, and Rachel, Marco and Cassie all demorph flies and remorph battle morphs in the hospital. My guess is everyone's just getting better at morphing so it's less tiring, though there is a limit on how much morphing someone can do at one time (see The Prophecy for the best example I can think of off the top of my head).
