I thought I remembered the scene with Ax in the food court, but I'm pretty sure I never read this book as a kid.* They reference the ant morph a lot in the later books, but it was like an Animorphs myth to me.
Adding this line here because the spoiler cover doesn't work in review previews on the book page. Ugh that's annoying.
I didn't think the reveal that
(show spoiler)happened this early, but thinking on the first four books it makes sense. Everyone has their reason for fighting. Marco needs a reason to stay in the game.
*Did a quick count and I think I read 31 of the books when I was a kid. That's about half the series.
