An Un-Calibrated Centrifuge

The Last Painting of Sara de Vos

The Last Painting of Sara de Vos: A Novel - Dominic Smith

I had to skip the end of the first chapter which didn't bode well for the book.

I don't find the story interesting or intriguing. So far the book is very white. There was a Japanese calligrapher who sends out her work in rice paper envelopes and an Aboriginal troupe of buskers sprinkled throughout to show that hey, non-white people exist in this story solely as props to remain in the background giving weird racist flavor to this otherwise unremarkable plot.

Actually, the plot might be remarkable but I wouldn't know because there were enough annoying little details that I ended up skipping the ends of a few chapters before giving up.

Normally I enjoy books about art/artists and books with interweaving timelines, but this one didn't do it for me.
