Letters from Rifka - Karen Hesse

Today I was tired of all the reading I haven't been doing so I picked this book from my shelf and read it in one sitting.

It's very short and not a difficult read though it covers some difficult topics. I didn't find the writing as beautiful as Hesse's other books but that makes sense for an epistolary novel. It's also not overly graphic (a problem I had when reading Out of the Dust) with the medical details. The story was influenced by Hesse's own family history. Overall, a solid MG read.
