Plum Wine

Plum Wine - Angela Davis-Gardner

I have zero intention of reading this book. I have a rule against reading books about Japan by white authors. But I checked out a few pages just to see if it's terrible or not.

The acknowledgements at the beginning are very long and the author consulted with many Japanese people. I just don't find the premise believable. Maybe it's explained later why Michi leaves something so personal and valuable to a practical stranger, but as it is it seems very strange.

Also the author has a strange way of describing kanji (I don't think the character for heaven looks like a T).

From reading other people's reviews, the best part is the exploration of Hiroshima survivors, but if I'm suddenly struck by the desire to learn more about them I would pick up a nonfiction book rather than this one. So not terrible, but it doesn't seem worth my time to read it either.
