For Today I Am a Boy

For Today I Am a Boy - Kim Fu

I cannot get into this story. The narrative is not chronological, and it is really confusing me as I'm trying to order Peter's story. Peter has some strange ideas about what it is to be a girl/woman. Maybe this will be further explored/explained as the novel goes on. I hope so (there's a weird emphasis on breasts which reminds me of a really badly written short story I had to read in a creative writing class).

The story just isn't grabbing me. It feels like everything is happening at once, and there's not breathing room. The writing reminds me of Ash by Malinda Lo, just the right side of purple prose but too flowery for my tastes. While I'm very interested in reading a book about a Chinese trans woman, I'm not going to force myself to read this one.
