The City of Ember

The City of Ember - Jeanne DuPrau

The pacing of the book felt a little off to me on rereading. I think it's because I knew everything that was coming so there wasn't really any anticipation.

Most of the logistics of the story seem to work out. It's unclear how long it took to build the City of Ember (maybe that's explained in a later book... I can't remember) and how large the population (I think that might be clarified in the next book though?). Not knowing those things doesn't impact the story at all though.

There is a cliffhanger ending, but the plot of The City of Ember is self-contained enough that you could stop reading with this one.
