I thought this book would be more about food. There's food in it, but it's also about friendship and jealousy and being twelve*.
*Though the protagonists seemed older to me. Probably because of all the 'they like each other' implications. The weirdest things about Sharon Creech's novels to me have always been the twelve-year-olds in love aspect that's in almost all of them. This one isn't love so much as crush territory though so it's less weird.
Also there's a dog on the cover of my version for some reason.
