Some of the best books I've read in the past couple of year were written by Jacqueline Woodson (Feathers, If You Come Softly, The House You Pass on the Way). I can't believe From the Notebooks of Melanin Sun was written 20 years ago. The story is still very relevant today. Woodson tackles difficult subjects very well in all her books and never strays into melodramatics (though it could be easy for any of her stories to skew that way). Her characters are completely believable. All in all, another great read from Woodson. She's had a great year so far (totally deserved in my opinion), and if you haven't checked any of her work out, pick up a book by her soon.
