The Things They Carried

The Things They Carried - Tim O'Brien

I read "Stockings" as a part of some test, AP or SAT, and so I found out what book it was from (I did the same thing with Einstein's Dreams) and bought the book. I started at the beginning and the story didn't grab me. It reminded me of reading Moby Dick only instead of picking through all the information about whaling, I was picking through info on the Vietnam War.

It was going OK until I hit the point with the thumb. I won't elaborate, but gross and no stop what are you doing. I looked up some online reviews after I read that and decided I should stop reading now. I reread "Stockings" and it was still pretty good. But other parts are just terrible (it's not "brave" to take a girl and tie her to her bed while you touch her knee WTF).
