The Gardner Heist

The Gardner Heist: The True Story of the World's Largest Unsolved Art Theft - Ulrich Boser

The Gardner Heist is an interesting book about the circumstances surrounding the Gardner Museum theft and some of the possible perpetrators. I found it difficult to keep all the names straight while reading the book, but Boser does a pretty good job of reminding who everyone is. The story is well-written and well-paced. This was another break book and reading it in 15 minute chunks worked well for me.

ETA: One objectionable thing in the book: The repeated mention of "Asian eyes" (on non-Asian people to boot) and "almond-shaped eyes." I think there's something about writing about old European art that invites orientalism.

Boser also mentioned "Asian take out" at one point... what exactly is that? Clearly this dude has a problem with descriptive writing when it comes to anything "Asian" (I use the term loosely since most of the things he describes as Asian aren't Asian at all).
