Let's start with what I liked about this book. I like that the book lets trans teens (I think they're all teenagers) tell their own stories. I like that different backgrounds and genders (male, female and gender q***r) are represented (mostly racially... it was difficult to tell otherwise: class, religion, etc).
However, there was a lot that I didn't like about the book. The stories are all heavily focused on transitioning. It would be nice to read a book about a trans person that isn't about their transition.
There were also a surprising amount of gender stereotypes throughout the book (I'm interested in reading more about trans people and their relationships with gender stereotypes). The actual phrase "I'm not a racist, but..." is in this book along with a cringy bit about "psychopaths."
I thought the book was interesting if a little difficult to read at times (I found the colloquial voice difficult to read after a while. I wish the book had been set up more like an interview with some more input from the author). Maybe not the best place to start if you're unfamiliar with trans issues.
