An Un-Calibrated Centrifuge

My dad once said to me, "You give a lot of books three stars." I do.

Dreaming in Indian

Dreaming in Indian: Contemporary Native American Voices - Lisa Charleyboy, Mary Leatherdale

Reading this book is a little like reading someone else's yearbook. I know it has a lot more meaning for the people it reflects.

Most of the pages are crammed with words, photographs and collages. I found it really overwhelming to look at a lot of the time. I think if the book were smaller (it's a much larger book than I thought) with text and images separated a little bit more it would have worked better for me. As it was, I often found myself reading the stories and ignoring the artwork (it really is a lot to take in all at once). But what I did read/see I really enjoyed. The variety of art and stories and voices that the book encompasses is great.
